Inland Waterways Authority of India Act, 1985 (Act No. 82 of 1985).

This Act establishes the Inland Waterways Authority of India for the development and regulation of inland waterways, and defines the Authority's functions, powers and internal organization.
Functions and powers of the Authority shall include: to carry out surveys and investigations for the development, maintenance and better utilization of the national waterways for shipping and navigation; control activities such as dumping or removal of material, in or from the bed of national waterways in order not to affect safe and efficient shipping and navigation, maintenance of navigable channels, etc.; and remove or alter any obstruction or impediment in the national waterways or adjacent land which may prevent the safe navigation or endanger safety.
The Act further provides for the establishment of the Inland Waterways Authority India Fund and for rule making powers of the Central Government.
